Weevil isn't going to be toying around and both of them have five minutes to set up a side deck from Dartz's collection based on their knowledge of the other. Best out of three(let's ignore the Orichalcos eats your soul part)

Extra deck? Are there any fusions (Because Season 4 Didn't have Synchros and XYZs, or pendulums for that matter) that either of them could use? That aside, I think Mai was the superior duelist still. At that point she was dueling the likes of Pegasus. Whereas ol Insector Weevil hadn't won a match on screen since... When did he duel Rex? Joey and Yugi have both wrecked him, and honestly Mai not only builds a better deck, her Deck type has way more field presence and can set up a board much faster. In fiction terms and in real world game mechanics, Mai really has a deadly edge. |

Side deck, I meant side deck xD She did duel Pegasus without his Milennium Eye and barely won. That's not a huge accomplishment as Pegasus without his eye, while dangerous, isn't really all that much compared to later duelists. She did win against Joey, but Joey was exhausted and wounded from having dueled Valon literally minutes beforehand and given how the Orichalcos wounds hurt, he wasn't in the best condition by the time she dueled him. Weevil didn't win at all as an Orichalcos, but he was able to force the Pharoah into a corner and lost by a string of extremely bad luck(though the Pharoah's mental state wasn't the best at the time as well). |

All these are true points. But his card types and selections, compounded with Weevil's very poor win/loss record really don't put him remotely in Mai's league. Mai is consistently in the top 4 or top 8 of tournaments. And Mai dueled Yami into a corner in duelist kingdom much more effectively than Weevil did way back in duelist kingdom. Side decking or not, Mai outclasses Weevil. |

Her win/loss record don't exactly mean much, tbh. And their selves in DK have no bearing on this matchup but if they did, Weevil was toying for the first leg of the duel, Weevil only lost due to DK rules, Yugi and Yami were internally struggling against Mai, and Mai gushed about how great Weevil was when he fought Yami. I'm fairly sure that DK Weevil is better than DK Mai based on that. But this isn't about their DK selves, this is about their Orichalcos selves. With Orichalcos, Mai only won against a battered and exhausted Joey. Weevil won against nobody but was forcing and pressuring an unstable Atem. I think that pressuring Atem, despite his instability, is more impressive than beating Joey after he had just faced Valon |

The strategy Weevil used against Atem, can Mai survive that? |

Ok ok ok, but riddle me this. This Mai, runs two to three Harpie's Feather dusters. This Weevil has ONE D.N.A. Surgery. Also Mirror Wall doesn't have an actual cost in the Anime for some reason. And Sparrow formation is a thing. Mai's monsters are technically tougher than Weevil's as a base, so I don't forsee Weevil getting over that. Deck Lists' referenced can be found below http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Mai_Valentine#Decks http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Weevil_Underwood%27s_Decks So yeah, without DNA surgery, his deck falls apart. Mai's deck is a bit more, flexible. |

We only saw 13 cards from Weevil, we saw 23 cards from Mai. You can't just compare them like that when we saw just a bit over half of Mai's and a bit over a quarter of Weevil's. |

That is still twice the flexibility! Mai has the superior card types, historically and contemporarily she's always had the better record, her strategy doesn't revolve around one (Specific) card, other duelists hold her in higher regard, base attack, trap effect and spell effects keep her at a higher level, she keeps better field presence, what does Weevil possibly have on her?!? |

Weevil has being able to pressure Atem as well as being more strategic in the way he thinks(typically cheating, but this applies to dueling as well). Win/loss record really doesn't mean anything. Weevil's lack of respect comes from him being an a***** as well as outdated, but this means very little since this wasn't during his time under the Orichalcos. |

How is that a better feat!?! Mai has ALREADY MATCHED THAT! Secondly, when discussing a card game, how does a win-lose record not matter? This guy is still a more badass duelist even though he can't win a game against anyone but his partner? I thought having points, ranking higher and I dunno, winning games implicated some level of skill. Either that or the best loser in the world is better than a mid level winner?!? Strategic... You're kidding right? Mai can push and control the board, early, mid and end game, has counter cards and can board wipe with a single strike. If Weevil doesn't have his oddly specific combos set up, he loses. In fact, he gets his arse whipped even WITH his oddly specific combos. And if he's outdated, and Mai is more up to date, doesn't that give her a bit of an edge too? Like I don't see any actual advantage thay he has over her. There is nothing this cheating a***** has done that Mai hasn't. Like be honest Lazer, you playing Devil's advocate or you just straight trolling dude? |

DK Atem =/= DOMA Atem(while unstable) DOMA Atem, even while off his game, is a far tougher guy than DK Atem. He's also tougher than tuckered out DOMA Joey, imo
Well, by that logic, Dartz should be even with Pegasus, their win/loss ratios are the same.
He was able to freak out Atem to the point where Atem was barely able to draw his next card, that's what I meant. Atem was emotionally damaged, true, but so is Orichalcos Mai. And all of those tools didn't do much to help her when a full strength Joey creamed her and she had extreme problems with Pegasus. Even Rex Raptor did better against Joey trying his best than her(he lost due to arrogance)
It wasn't like he got stomped, he held the edge against Atem for quite some time.
That was Pre-Orichalcos and I was referring to him no longer being champion. Because of that, his fame left him and people basically saw him for what he really was. That also pretty much shot his self esteem to s*** and made him extremely bitter, bitter enough that he could grab the Orichalcos stone
I just think that the bug guy is more reliable than the bird lady |

Very personal opinion, especially given that Waking the Dragons Joey has his Red-Eyes back, meaning he won his Battle City Finals duel with Yami. Meaning they're bother at the upper end of tier one. Especially given that Joey uses Swordsman of Landstar unironically. Not as a tuner either.
Kinda. Pegasus beat Kaiba, lost to Yami. I'd say Dartz is still tougher since he was able to take them both on at the same time. Beating the Grand Champion and the King of Games together is tough. But still, it at least shows SOME level of consistency. And no good duelists loses EVERY GAME. Mai is at least a 50/50 with names characters.
Fear, anger, hate, so on and so forth. Also Joey is actively a better duelist than Weevil by statements and Showings. By GX he's even considered number three in the world and he's one of the three legendary duelists that got a Legendary Dragon. And Weevil, well he has that cute trap card eh? Also, this is a much more powerful Joey than the ones that Weevil and Rex dueled (And lost to, even WITH Weevil cheating) This Joey was not only runner up to Duelist Kingdom and fourth place in Battle City, he had also defeated the game king (In an exhibition match, but statement stands.) He was also stomping clowns left and right in the movie. And Mai held a very decisive edge in most of her first round duel with Joey too, it was when the Claw of Hermos popped that really got Joey out of a jam. So unless Weevil's "Heart of the Cards." is stronger than Mai's... I... I just don't see that as an edge. And Pegasus is still the CREATOR of duel monsters. They guy that developed something usually knows a secret or two that even a long time user hasn't figured out yet. So, Mai just has this amazing looking track record and Weevil's looks like bug squash.
When did Mai get stomped, and how is it different from any other time Weevil has gotten stomped. Again, I'm sure I can find more duels where Weevil gets laughed off *while cheating* at a bare minimum twice as frequently as Mai has even lost.
It is amazing how few things you have typed here that Weevil has done that Mai hasn't. Mai's self esteem was shot and she was bitter two. Guess what she had that Weevil didn't? Money, her flash back of why she wanted Orichalcos was her WINNING A REGIONAL TOURNAMENT. Winning Regionals > Got beat up over crappy autograph. It's really looking sad for your boy Weevil "Insector" Underwood.
With a worse win-lose ratio, weaker cards, weaker motivation, worse historical performances, a more situational overall strategy, lower duelist rating/ranking, worse world tournament placements and ultimately the inability to win playing fairly or unfairly? The only thing Weevil has done right is defeat Exodia, and that was by throwing it off of a boat. Like explain this. Even their cards are lopsided. Harpie Lady vs Gokibore, Harpie Lady's base attack is 100 points difference. Both have the seal, wont be special summoning from the extra/fusion deck. Just base attack works wonders. Point to Mai Armored Centipede vs Cyber Harpie Lady. Not only is Armored centipede weaker for being a level higher, Cyber Harpie is a free summon and works with all the support cards in Mai's deck, Armored centipede only works with DNA surgery on board. Insect Queen vs Harpie's Pet Dragon. Hmmm, Insect Queen has a higher Base attack, but literally every other card in Mai's deck is harpie lady. also, 200 point boost vs 300 point boost. Still depends on DNA Surgery. And THEN it still has to tribute a monster before attacking? That's an automatic 200 point loss regardless. So unless you have a board it can't even get the first punch off! Insect Barrier vs Mirror Wall Insect Barrier has the condition of only effecting Insect types. Mirror Wall? Everything on your opponenet's side of the field, with no cost in the anime. Even if insect queen is boosted, it'll still fall to a pumped Cyber Lady. DNA Surgery vs Elegant Egotist Two more essential combo cards. Difference? Mai's works on the name, DNA surgery relies on the type. Also, it must be set. Mai's card is always live. DNA surgery, not so much. Being insects technically doesn't hurt Mai. Not having insect's on the opponent's side of the field hurts Weevil. So fundamentally the Harpies swarm better than THE BUGS SWARM! And what was the signature combo? Harpie's Feather Duster + Phoenix Formation? Wipe the back wall, then obliterate the front wall? With total burn damage? Mai has an OTK, Mai has a Board Wipe, Mai has more synergy, Mai has a better record, Mai has more motivation, Mai's cards are less situation, Mai can swarm, Mai can support her monsters, Mai has flexibility, Mai has multiple combos, Mai has experience at higher levels. And what's Weevil got? Nothing. He's a joke character, she's a main supporting character. Unless he puts together and Inzector Deck, there is nothing he can hope to do to stand up to that woman. Even looking at the top 13 cards in each deck, Mai is going to have a live hand if she draws ONE harpie. Weevil, will not. How, just how, can Weevil even HOPE to defeat someone who has him out gunned, out classed, outwitted and over powered? What ONE thing can he do to the NINE she's got him whipped on? No more "I believe in Weevil, he gave the Pharoah a good fight" strawmans. Everyone has given the Pharoah a good fight, the series isn't compelling if he just stomps everyone! What actual advantage does Weevil even have? |

Joey wouldn't necessarily have beaten Yugi. His card could've been returned to him for managing to give Yugi a good duel. If you're insinuating that Yugi lost with 3 God Cards in his deck and after beating Kaiba, someone that Joey could never beat even in filler, then there may be some problems. |
